Centre Island
The Toronto Islands were not always islands but actually a series of continuously moving sand-bars. This place iis well-know to Torontonians for leisure and relaxation. Thus we went to have our BBQ in late August. We stocked up at Sobeys and had delicious burger and as dessert way too many cup cakes...

An recreational paradise - the island offers an amusement park, beaches, cafes and restaurants, bbq places, various parks along the lake shore and roads to cycle on the car free island.

On a historical note I found it interesting to know about the "pact" the city has made with teh islands inhabitants: There are about 700 residents on the Toronto Island which have fought the city over the years. At various times the city has proposed the demolition of homes and the creation of a park on Algonquin and Ward's Islands.
The inhabitants of this residential area currently lease the properties from a Trust established by the Ontario government for 99 year terms expiring in 2094. There are strict rules for the buying and selling of Island homes imposed by the provincial law governing the Island community. I guess I won't be able to buy my cottage there...
