The Empire Club of Canada - Joey Tannenbaum

This weeks Empire Club of Canada speaker at the luncheon at the Royal York was Joey Tanenbaum, President and Chief Executive Officer of JAY-M Holdings, talking about his family’s history. Joey's office is right next door to my work & anyone who met him & had the chance to talk to him can only confirm what an endearing & generous person he is.His grandfather Abraham Tanenbaum migrated to Toronto in 1911 with only 8 dollars and he later became a peddler, collecting scrap metal around the city and in 1914, after he had save enough money brought his wife Chippa Sura & two sons to Canada.
Joey’s grandparents were generous people who lived by the Jewish principle of philanthropy and benevolence (Wohlwollen), which he followed and became a well respected philanthropist in Toronto in the area of arts and culture. Joey & his wife Toby donated millions to art galleries such as the AGO & the Art Gallery in Ottawa, the Canadian Opera, University of TO, various hospitals among others.
